The Grand Shoot

Yesterday wrapped up our shooting for the video. It was a great time

Friday Night Billy and I performed at DSI Comedy Theater. The crowd response was great! I then had to go straight to work the Shockwave II hip-hop show at the Cradle - still dressed as the It’s Carrboro rapper. A man introduced himself as “Uzi” [sic?] and said, “do you know me?”

Me: No.
Uzi: I’m the guy that brought hip-hop back to the Cradle.
Me: Okay, do you know me?
Uzi: I’m sorry, I don’t.
Me: I’m the guy that brought hip-hop back to Carrboro.

Saturday morning Meredith and I went to CostCo to buy food for Sunday. Again, muchas thanks to our sponsors as their money went towards feeding all the talent! Also to Meredith for helping out with the whole thing.

Later that night while I was working at the WXYC 80’s dance a young lady named Ashlee (”make sure you spell my name with two ‘e’s“) requested that I autograph her breast. This, I admit, was a personal first. I also got a chance to invite to the shoot two local police officers who were watching all the kids born in the 90’s queue up for the 80’s dance. One of them later pulled both me and Meredith over when she picked me up after work that night.

Sunday went pretty well I think. About 50 people showed up and to my delight it appeared Meredith and I bought just the right amount of food. I think most had a good time and I’m sure we got some really good footage.

Meiling Arounnarath from the N&O did a piece on the shoot with photos for the article by John Rottet. Read it here, it’s great.

Sunday night Jason and I began editing the footage… There are so many great shots it is going to be difficult to cull them. We are shooting for the 8th to have it edited. That’s a short week from today. We hope to finish by that date as that is when Flicker Film Festival will be at the Cat’s Cradle and they have agreed to let us play the video at the end of the show.

where’d the overhead shot come from?

Was a Uzi a slightly short, bald, black guy? If so he has been doing a lot of DJ-ing and stuff around here for about 15 years. We went to college together, he was co-proprietor of Lost City for a while, and does a weekly show at the Wine Bar.

Anyway, I had lot of fun on Sunday. Meiling’s article is pertty good, but she made it sound like I wasn’t walking the walk. ;-} Are there any bigger pictures?

I can’t wait to see the video. Your editing schedule sounds ambitious!

Ruby, you described the man with whom I interracted. He seemed really nice (n1c3 if you’re 1337) and I got a good “vibe” from him. And we all know you walked the walk, Ruby. Your image has been captured for all posterity and will be displayed globally. Mark my words.

Indeed, Ruby did walk the walk:

as did Mike Nelson:

I’ll put up a gallery of more images soon. (Working around a deadline at the moment.) Meanwhile, you can see a larger version of the overhead shot in the ~/itscarrboro/ directory.
